MIXED MESSAGES - PART 3
Judge
Aquilina was wrong about Larry Nassar when she said his apology was insincere.
Well, not the apology. That was a lie. Predators are never sorry for what they
have done, only for getting caught. If they were sorry, they’d never have
committed the offences. Nassar was bragging when he said “I will carry your
words with me for the rest of my days.” He wanted to hear how they suffered,
and what they said and wrote gave him exactly what he wanted.
She was
wrong about that moment in history being a turning point too. We’ve known about
these kinds of offences for decades, yet nothing has changed. This one court
case is an aberration in the sense that the victims actually got (at least a
small measure of) justice. The vast majority of victims never come forward or,
if they do, are forced to remain silent by the very authorities that are supposed
to help and protect them. There is no evidence that this will ever change, no
matter how hard victims and good people work to affect that positive change.
The
entrenched culture of corruption that results in police and public services
responding to victims with incompetence, ineptitude, negligence, indifference,
idleness, apathy, mockery, insults, unfounded and defamatory allegations, and
intimidation continues unabated. There has been no effort to stamp-out this
vile behaviour that assists predators and forces victims to remain silent.
Complaints about these despicable responses are dealt with through “internal
investigation”, a conflict of interest used for the sole purpose of covering-up
and destroying any evidence or credibility of a complaint.
Where have
we seen this behaviour before? Ah, yes, the Churches. It was exposed during the
Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child (Sexual) Abuse. That
investigation included Terms of Reference laid down by politicians who had ties
to Churches, and ensured only complaints involving a sexual component and not
linked to police or public services could be investigated. Now there are
rumours State Wards may finally be allowed to speak of the horrors they
suffered.
But not
people like me. People like me were ignored by the authorities so we don’t get
a say. Remember? What we suffered is classified as “familial abuse”, brutalities
inflicted by family members even if they were not related by blood. As if it
doesn’t count. Besides, deadlines for Statute Laws have passed, so even if the
evidence is solid, it cannot be prosecuted. The actions of authorities preventing victims from
reporting the crimes does not have any impact on this outcome.
Yet, even
so, despite the Statute Laws, victims may not speak of what they endured for
fear of legal action for “defamation”. They are still forced to remain silent
even as politicians, celebrities and the media urge them to come forward and
report the crimes. Everybody feels good. The community who have no idea will
troll victims and insist the victim is lying and that there is no systemic
failure because the media, politicians, celebrities, and the accused tell them
so.
Recently,
I read a post by some RWNJ about the (alleged) victims of Craig McLachlan. That
idiot claimed the women were “washed up whores” who were out to “make money”
from their “lies”, that McLaclan was being persecuted by a “trial by media” and
“whatever happened to the presumption of innocence”. Indeed. Yet he was quite
certain of his portrayal of the (alleged) victims… despite having no supporting
evidence. Perhaps he had been there, at those times, during the alleged
offences?
So I
decided to have a look at this individual's profile page, see if maybe he worked
with McLachlan and the (alleged) victims, even suggest he should go to the
police and file his own report to provide evidence for the case. His profile page included anti-Islam posts
featuring the so-called culture of rampant sexual assault and rape Muslim males
inflicted on women, and a demand that refugees be sent back to the Middle East.
Kind of a mixed message there.
But it’s
not one that RWNJs can wrap their tiny little brains around. Yes, some
predators and those that help them support left-wing ideologies, but the
majority are right-wing. It comes with the territory. The whole Might Makes
Right attitude where victim blaming, arrogance, ignorance, and fascism is
standard practice. It explains why 18.15% of US citizens will happily use trial
by media to convict celebrities (who are anti-Trump) over allegations of sexual
assaults, but still vote for Trump and other Republicans who have a history of making
misogynistic comments and sexual assaults against women and children.
Yeah, that’s
right, less than one-in-five people in the US voted for Trump. As a point of
interest, 19.08% voted for Clinton. She had more votes, but the Electoral
College awarded the Presidency to Trump. The US is ruled by the decision of a minority, less
than 20% of its population. Democracy. The will of the people. Where is it?
Consider this, though, 62.77% either couldn’t vote or didn’t care. Even if half
of them were kids, over 31.38% is almost twice as many as voted for Trump. You can
bet they regret not voting now.
The
entrenched culture of corruption in politics, the police and public services is
only there because the same vile culture is all too prevalent in the community.
The people that fill those positions come from the community, and the worst
ones use this to gravitate to positions of authority. It explains why you will
find evidence of incompetence and nepotism, instead of meritocracy, in politics,
the police and the public services, yet so much support for rotten politicians
and unwillingness to correct failures.
So, what
do we do? There’s no point trying to appeal to the good nature of those who are
part of the problem because they have no good nature, and you cannot reason
with unreasonable people. The evidence is clear that the people in charge of
fixing the problem not only have no idea what they are doing, but are part of
the problem. Inadvertently or deliberately maintaining it. Perhaps we should
listen to the wisdom of the victims, because only they seem to get it.
We should
accept that there is systemic failure, that there are predators enabling
predators, the things I write about. Sure, what I’m doing here is a complete
waste of time because nobody bothers to read what I write and nobody cares, but
I do it because it’s the right thing to do. If I do nothing, then I’m part of
the problem too. I cannot affect positive change, but if someone, one day,
reads what I write, is motivated to do what I cannot, and has the power to
affect positive change, then it’s worth it.
That’s why
I keep posting on this blog. That’s why I read as much as I can and find quotes
to shock and anger people, to make them read the same things, to get to a place
close to where so many victims are trapped, to feel the frustration and
helplessness, to demand positive change. Maybe, just maybe, they will get it,
and pass it on, help convince a police officer, public servant or politician to
read something that exposes a crime or systemic failure, stand-up and give
folks like Rachael Denhollander, McKayla Maroney, and all the other victims a
little nod as they metaphorically stand by their side in solidarity.
All I know
is that we’ve been doing the same stupid shit for decades, and all it’s done to
date is isolated and silenced victims while concealing and enabling predators,
crime, systemic failure and injustice. Predators keep posting their sick attitudes and behaviours in the media, hiding behind 'free speech', and like-minded predators (like WordPress) keep enabling them by refusing to remove the offensive material. We are not learning from the mistakes.
Our society keeps doing the same things and repeating them. There has to be
positive change. Empty platitudes and opportunistic stories from authorities
are not enough. Celebrities and folks in the media are not the only victims.
There are
thousands of ordinary people, like me, who suffer the same and similar. Nobody listens
to us, decides to give us the benefit of the doubt, investigates our allegations,
or just has the decency to fuck off instead of trolling us with nasty and defamatory
comments. Our abusers are never investigated. They never will be. They get away
with it, keep doing it, and profit financially from their crimes. Authorities and
freelance dickheads are complicit in the abuse. If we had a voice, you’d
realise Hollywood is just echoing the same four words we’ve been repeating, for
decades: “Me too. Time’s up.”
